As the 2020 Campaign planning sessions begin, we want to take the time to introduce our volunteers who make a big impact!
This week we want to introduce Ryan Mulder, American State Bank
1. Where in South Dakota, have you not yet been, but would like to visit and why?
I’ve lived in or near South Dakota most of my life so through my travels for work and personal activities I feel like I’ve got the state pretty well covered. Ironically, I have never taken the time to walk through the Cathedral of Saint Joseph right here in Sioux Falls and have always wanted to.
2. As the Chair of the Counseling team, what has been the most eye opening piece that you have learned?
As a society, we’re starting to talk more openly about mental health but we have a long way to go. I’ve learned so much about the agencies that are out there every day trying to make an impact in our community and also some of the struggles that they encounter while trying to help those in need. Getting clients with limited financial resources the counseling they need can be a very difficult task.
3. If you were not involved with Community Impact where else would you want to be volunteering your time?
I already stay pretty busy volunteering at my church, school and other non-profits but if I had more time it would be something involving personal finance. Helping people understand the power and true value of a dollar saved. Next time you see me, ask me about my 50 year experiment.
4. Team wrap up meetings are happening now, what is the most challenging piece of these before you head to the Chair’s meeting?
I’ve never questioned the heart or intent of any agency we’ve reviewed. All of the programs that we review each year have a purpose and absolutely wonderful people that have made this their life’s passion to helping those in need. The challenge for us as volunteers is funding the right amount based on financial need and effectiveness.
5. What inspires you?
People that overcome adversity and achieve their goals. I especially love human triumph stories that involve sports and the pure determination to overcome whatever obstacle stands in their way. People are amazing!
