Sioux Empire United Way was proud to celebrate the Alexis de Tocqueville (ADT) society for its remarkable philanthropic efforts that have significantly contributed to our community’s well-being. The Annual Donor Reception served as a tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to improving the lives of children, vulnerable adults, and people in crisis within the Sioux Empire.
On September 26th, over 100 local philanthropists and community members gathered downtown at the new Dhalia Kitchen + Bar. To kickoff things off, Tyler Haahr, ADT Chair, recognized Brian Bird, Past Chair, and Chris Thorkelson, Vice Chair, whose “leadership continues to guide our efforts this year.”
In his brief remarks to the group, he also extended a heartfelt thank you to Lloyd Companies, Craig and Pat Lloyd, and Chris and Kristen Thorkelson for generously hosting the fall reception.

Describing the impact ADT has made, Lisa said, “the commitment to philanthropy here goes well beyond giving to Sioux Empire United Way and can be seen throughout our community. Your vision and generosity are what continue to make Sioux Falls such a great place to live and work."
The event also featured Michelle Erpenbach, President of Sioux Falls Thrive, as the nonprofit speaker. She shared insights on the childcare crisis and the impact she’s seen firsthand thanks to the scholarships provided by Sioux Empire United Way.

Alexis de Tocqueville Society
The Alexis de Tocqueville Society is a keystone to SEUW’s annual giving campaign with members contributing $10,000 or more annually. In 2023, our Society made history with a record-breaking $2.1 million in gifts – making up 23% of the entire campaign.
This achievement is a testament to the incredible generosity and the impact we can have when we come together 💙
