More than 275 volunteers from over 35 local businesses came together for the second annual Day of Action, hosted by Volunteer United, a volunteer group of Sioux Empire United Way. The event mobilized individuals to make a tangible difference through hands-on service projects at 17 nonprofit organizations across the Sioux Empire.
The day began with a kickoff lunch and program at the Bancorp Building Interconnect at Cherapa Place, followed by an afternoon of volunteer service. Projects ranged from organizing donations and gardening to assembling naloxone (Narcan) kits and completing facility improvements—all in support of nonprofits that are creating lasting change in the community.
“The growth of this event in just its second year has been inspiring to witness,” said Anna Jankord, Volunteer United Steering Committee Chair. “We’ve seen more businesses, more volunteers, and more nonprofits come together—all driven by the shared goal of giving back and showing up for our community. It’s proof of what can happen when we unite for good.”
Participating nonprofit partners included: Active Generations, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire, Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety, Dakotabilities, Emily’s Hope, Feeding South Dakota, Furniture Mission of South Dakota, Helpline Center, Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership, REACH Literacy, Sanford Children’s Child's Voice, Sioux Council/Scouting America, Sioux Empire United Way, Sioux Falls Hope Coalition, Sioux Falls YMCA, St. Francis House, and Toy Lending Library of South Dakota.
“Volunteering is one of the most meaningful ways to support a nonprofit,” said Rachael Alwin, Director of Strategic Philanthropy at Sioux Empire United Way. “Financial contributions are vital, but your time and talents can also move missions forward. Day of Action shows how service—big or small—can make a real impact.”
